Blues Take Game 1

After losing to the Shooters in two previous match-ups in the regular season, the Blues wanted to get off to a quick start in game 1 of the semi-finals.

Early in the game Corinto Iampieri would serve two minute minor. The Shooter’s would apply pressure on the powerplay but it was Charlie Catalano who would bury the first goal of the game short-handed. Three minutes later Charlie Catalano would open up the gap and put the Blues ahead 2-0. Blues weren’t done just yet, less than a minute after Blues veteran Corinto Iampieri would get his first of the post season followed by his second just 30 seconds later.

With the Blues up 4-0 at the end of the first we knew we had to stick to our game plan after losing the lead to the Shooters two previous times in the regular season. The Shooters would get up on the board with 4:28 played in the second and with Blues players falling to penalties it really gave the Shooters a lot of momentum. The Blues would kill a full 4 minutes of penalties with two of those minutes being a 5-3 advantage for the Shooters. With just under 3 minutes to play the Shooters would come within’ two but it was Frank Russo who put the insurance on it going five hole on Tony Romita and finishing this game a 5-2 victory for the Blues.

Good job by Marcel Arruda who made so many big saves in this first of two match up vs. the Giant Shooters

Next game goes down on Monday at 7pm.

GO BLUES GO!!
